Guava and Cheese Turnovers

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF
  2. Take frozen, pre-made puff pastry sheets out of box and let them thaw about 20 minutes so that they become easier to work with. Place on flat surface.
  3. Use lightly floured rolling pin to roll sheets out slightly, pinching together any cracks in the dough.
  4. Using paring knife, cut each sheet into 4-6 equal squares.
  5. Cut guava paste into slices about 1/4″ thick and place diagonally in center of each pastry square. Add equal amount of cream cheese on top of guava paste. Sprinkle cinnamon on top, avoiding edges of pastry.
  6. Whisk egg in small bowl to use as egg wash. Brush egg wash along edges of each pastry square.
  7. Fold pastry over to form triangles and press edges down with a fork to form seal.
  8. Make small cuts across top to create heat vents. These will keep the turnovers from exploding while cooking.
  9. Place turnovers on baking sheet, then brush egg wash on top to cover entire surface.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
