Barley Water
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Hulled Barley
- 4 cups water
- 3 tsp lemon juice (to taste)
- 3 tsp raw sugar (to taste)
- Mint leaves as garnish (optional)
Steps
- Pick out any pebbles and soak barley overnight.
- Add Barley to large pot with tight fitting lid. Add the water.
- Cover pot and cook for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Let cool enough to handle, then strain the grains out using a mesh strainer.
- Lightly press the grains in the strainer to extract as much water as you can.
- Add lemon juice and sugar to taste, garnish with mint.
- Refrigerate any leftovers for a day only.
Notes
- Serve warm or cool, depending on taste.
- Ginger could also be added.
- Give the cooked barley to your chickens!
